The device presents an ionization cell (14, 114) housed inside a casing (13, 113) fitted inside the exhaust conduit (6, 106) of the engine (5, 105); and the cell (14, 114) presents at least one circularly symmetrical cathode (23, 64) supplied by an electronic circuit to generate a discharge of negative ions at such a speed as to break the peripheral electron bonds of the toxic or pollutant component molecules of the exhaust gas. In an embodiment for spark- ignition combustion engines (5), the casing (13) presents two coaxial fittings (21, 22), each surrounded by a metal sponge filter (33) for storing the heat of the gas. In a further embodiment for diesel engines (105), the casing (113) presents an inverting chamber (47) for inverting the gas flow and located upstream from the ionization cell (114); and the gas is heated in the inverting chamber (47) by resistors (61) supplied by the battery. In a variation of the device, a further fitting is provided for feeding part of the purified, ionized exhaust gas back to the intake conduit of the engine to improve engine efficiency during cold-starting and when accelerating sharply.
On décrit une cellule d'ionisation (14, 114) disposée dans un boîtier (13, 113) monté dans le tuyau d'échappement (6, 106) d'un moteur (5, 105). Cette cellule (14, 114) présente au moins une cathode (23, 64) à symétrie circulaire, alimentée par un circuit électronique afin de produire une décharge d'ions négatifs à une vitesse propre à briser les liaisons électroniques périphériques des molécules de composants toxiques ou polluants présents dans les gaz d'échappement. Dans une variante destinée aux moteurs à combustion à allumage commandé (5), le boîter (13) présente deux accessoires coaxiaux (21, 22) entourés chacun d'un filtre en éponge métallique (33) destiné à accumuler la chaleur des gaz. Dans une autre variante destinée aux moteurs diesel (105), ce boîtier (113) présente une chambre d'inversion (47) chargée d'inverser le flux gazeux et disposée en amont de la cellule d'ionisation (114). Les gaz sont chauffés dans cette chambre d'inversion (47) par des résistances (61) alimentées par la batterie. Un dérivé de ce dispositif prévoit un autre accessoire chargé de ramener une partie des gaz d'échappement purifiés et ionisés à la conduite d'admission du moteur pour améliorer le rendement de ce dernier pendant les démarrages à froid et lors des fortes accélérations
