The invention relates to a device for replacing printing plates in rotary printing presses, said printing presses comprising plate cylinders 1 with a gap (11) for receiving both ends (28, 29) of a printing plate while the surface of said printing plate is wound around said plate cylinder (1); said device comprising a a facility (3) for receiving a printing plate A presently on said plate cylinder (1) after the latter has been released by the clamping means of said plate cylinder (1), and a facility (2) for feeding a new printing plate B to said plate cylinder (1). The invention is characterized by horizontally movable holding elements (82, 83) provided close to the outer cylindrical surface of the plate cylinder (1), said holding elements (82, 83) holding the front edge (28') of a printing plate B to be fed, until pivotable holding means (9), being remote-controllable, grip the front edge (28') of said printing plate B to be fed to bring it in contact with the outer cylindrical surface of the plate cylinder (1).
