Device for sealing a rotor shaft (4-8-9) which is supported on a bearing (5-10) erected in the housing (1) of an appliance for compressing or expanding a fluid containing, apart from the housing (1), at least one rotor (2) mounted therein, whereby the sealing device is situated between the rotor (2) and the bearing (5-10) around said rotor shaft (5-8-9) and contains at least two blank contact or frictionless seals (13-15), characterized in that this sealing device successively contains a first blank contact seal (13) between the rotor (2) and the bearing (4-8-9); a double, reverse lip seal (14) with two lips (23), partly directed towards one another and partly directed towards said rotor shaft (4- 8-9) with their back sides, and with an entry (24) for fluid under pressure opening between these lips (23), whereby these lips (23), depending on the pressure between them, are connected to the rotor shaft (4-8-9) or are lifted from the rotor shaft (4-8-9) ; and a second blank contact seal (15).
