A device for selectively recording and reproducing video programs for video appliances capable of grading adult programs of violence and sex distributed through diverse video media and restricting juveniles' viewing of those programs. In recording, a viewing-restriction step (grade) is determined in accordance with the contents of a video program to be recorded, and the program provided from one of the video appliances is recorded on a recording medium in accordance with the determined recorded control step. In reproduction, the record control step of the program recorded on the recording medium is recognized, and then compared with a reproduction control step determined at the reproduction stage, so that the reproduction of the program is selectively performed depending on the comparison result of the record control step and the reproduction control step.

L'invention est un dispositif pour appareils vidéo qui permet l'enregistrement et la lecture de façon sélective de programmes vidéo et qui peut coter selon leur niveau de violence et leur contenu sexuel les programmes vidéo distribués par des médias divers et interdire le visionnement de ces programmes par les adolescents. Au moment de l'enregistrement, une cote de visionnement est établie d'après le contenu du programme vidéo à enregistrer et le programme fourni par l'un des appareils vidéo est enregistré sur un support selon la cote de contrôle d'enregistrement établie. Au moment de la lecture, la cote de contrôle d'enregistrement du programme enregistré sur le support est détectée et est comparée avec la cote de contrôle de lecture et la lecture est effectuée si les cotes de contrôle d'enregistrement et de lecture concordent.
