A device for sharpening cutting tools, in particular knives, with a sharpening arrangement (4) having at least one pair of sharpening elements, the pair of sharpening elements being made of two pivoted sharpening elements mounted one behind the other overlapping in the sharpening direction, in each case a holding arrangement, which has a recess corresponding with the respective sharpening element, into which recess the sharpening element is inserted interlocking leaving a clearance which permits the sharpening element to turn without play, being provided for pivoting each sharpening element.
