The invention provides a device for sidewise shifting and positioning of a tool in a slotting station situated within a machine used for processing plate-like workpieces. This station includes creasing tools (60) and associated counter-parts (75) mounted to a first pair of vertically spaced and horizontally parallel shafts (40, 50), slotting tools and associated counter- parts, fitted on another pair of shafts arranged downstream, and a master plate held vertically in the shifting direction of the workpieces by two transverse shafts: a guiding shaft (30) and a threaded shaft (10), the latter being capable of imparting a lateral shift to the master plate (100). The master plate (100) has on its periphery appropriate means (106, 107) for the lateral guiding of the respective tools. A system for the lateral guiding of a tool to be shifted in response to the shifting of other tools is provided on a secondary plate (225) fitted on the master plate (100) by a mechanical arrangement (130, 205, 208) allowing the secondary plate (225) to be moved in a translational motion orthogonal to the master plate (100), while being held simultaneously fully parallel to the master plate.
