ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The present invention provides a device for split- ting and cutting firewood comprising: an elongate horizontal frame member, a vertical knife fixed in relation to the frame member and upstanding therefrom, at least one horizontal knife fixed to a side of the vertical knife and outstanding there- from, an abutment plate slidably disposed on the frame member and extending transversely thereto, a hydraulic piston and cylinder unit coupled to the abutment plate for displacing said plate toward and away from the vertical and horizontal knives, and a clamping member removably mounted to the abut- ment plate for displacement therewith and including: a pair of vertically oriented knives arranged one above the other and having edges defining a V-shaped recess, and a vertically ori- ented guide plate spaced from the recess and defining there- with a log receiving opening, whereby logs may be split by displacing the abutment plate towards the vertical and hori- zontal knives with the clamping member removed, or simul- taneously cut and split by inserting a log to a desired length through the receiving opening of the clamping member and dis- placing the abutment plate and damping member towards the vertical and horizontal knives.
