The invention relates to a device for stimulating the motor system and the muscles especially in the leg and back region. In order to perform the stimulation with a strain as small as possible on the heart and circulatory system, it is proposed according to the invention that two stepping surfaces are disposed on a frame which are adapted to be oscillatingly lifted and lowered by means of a drive mechanism. The basic tone of the muscles is set by the weight of the patient standing on the stepping surfaces, while the stimulation of the muscles is performed by means of the oscillating stepping surface movement.
