Abstract A tray on which to transport and from which to dispense hypodermic syringes or other instruments having needles normally covered by sheaths is intended for use by health care workers and those who are exposed to the dangers of accidental puncture wounds from contaminated needles. The tray is so constructed as to secure the instruments with their needles in their sheaths during transportation, while enabling removal and resheathing of an instrument using only one hand. This result is achieved by providing for each instrument a barrel containing a device for gripping the sheath of the instrument and for releasing such grip only upon manual tilting of the barrel.
