ABSTRACT Correlation is obtained between optical beams having spatially modulated intensities by means of an active-glass window, one side of which is illuminated simultaneously by reading and pumping beams using at least one semi-transparent mirror to combine the beams. The reading beam is of radiation with a wavelength equal to that of the transition between intermediate and fundamental energy levels of the material of the window, and the pump beam is of radiation with a wavelength corresponding to the highest energy level of the material forming the active glass. The light beam leaving the window is modulated with a correlation between the reading and pumping beams.
