A B S T R A C T A device for the development of an electrostatic charge image on a support sheet by means of a powder mixture comprising magnetizable carrier particles and dye or toner particles comprises a tray which contains a quantity of the powder mixture and a cylinder mounted for rotation near a rear wall of the tray. The cylinder cooperates with a permanent magnet disposed above the cylinder to form a magnetic brush. The support sheet is transported by rollers over a portion of the cylinder. Mixing members are mounted near the bottom of the tray and a supply pipe of fresh mixture of magnetizable and toner particles leads into the tray. The rear edge of the tray lies parallel to the rotational axis of the cylinder at a height inter- mediate the highest point of the cylinder and the rotational axis of the cylinder.
