ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The invention provides a device for the diffusion of substances between two fluids via semipermeable membranes which are arranged in a stack separated by spacer plates, which comprise through-channels connected to inlets and outlets for the respective fluids, a first fluid being arranged so as to flow on one side of the membranes and a second fluid being arranged to flow on the opposite side of the same membranes, the membranes being recessed in grooves formed in a spacer plate situated on the opposite side of the membrane so as to form channels on one side of the membranes for the said first fluid, the grooves being formed within at least one substantially V-shaped area which in itself encloses at least one through-channel.
