ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Prior to the locking, at least one portion of a flexible closure band or strap lying on a baseplate is moved in a tension- ing direction by a tensioning roller which may be raised or lowered in a band channel and is driven manually or by motor; portions of the closure band are arranged in a double layer, with the top one gliding over the bottom one lying on the base plate and held there by the upper surface of a holding plate. Alternatively, in the case of a band portion arranged in a single layer, the band glides on a glide plate fastened to the baseplate. In either case, the holding plate or glide plate lies in a depression in the base plate and has on its underside a convex surface which makes the contact zone smaller than the opposite upper surface, whereby the holding plate or glide plate is pivotally supported.
