The invention relates to a method for operating a UV disinfection device. Said method comprises the following steps: a) application of an operating voltage to the radiation source (3.1-8.4) in order to ignite the latter and to maintain the continuous operation of said source (3.1-8.4); b) modulation of the operating voltage of at least one radiation source; c) detection of the UV radiation emitted from the radiation sources (3.1-8.4) using a UV sensor (10) that is capable of temporally resolving the modulation; d) evaluation of the signal received from the UV sensor (10); e) verification of whether the modulation in the signal emitted by the UV sensor (10) corresponds to a target value.
