A manual propulsion system for a vessel comprising a frame (12) and means (14, 14a, 19a, 19b) which are arranged to float, glide or roll on a substrate (50, 50a, 50b), charac-terized by the propulsion system including at least one push pole (6) which is connected to the frame (12) by means of a pivoted knee joint (5a) and a pivoted frame joint (4) and an interposed linking bar (5), the at least one push pole (6) being arranged to provide, by a pivoting of the linking bar (5) from an approximately vertical position in the direction of a horizontal position, a movement directed slopingly down-wards towards the substrate (50, 50a, 50b).
