ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Apparatus is disclosed for winding a web of material into a drum. The apparatus has two support rollers each driven by a motor, the drum being pressure loaded by a presser roller into the nip of the support rollers. A control device for the motors increases, as the drum diameter increases, the torque of the motor associated with the first support roller in the travel- ling direction of the web and decreases the torque of the motor associated with the second support roller in the travelling direction of the web. The drives of the two support rollers are coupled together by a brake having a braking torque proportional to the speed.
