The invention relates to a device for working crops that grow on stalks in a cultivating bed, which device and which cultivating bed are movable relative to each other, said device at least comprising first image forming means for selecting a crop on the basis of predetermined crop characteristics; gripping means, which can be placed into engagement with the selected crop an the basis of signals generated by the first image forming means; and separating means for separating the selected crop from the cultivating bed. The object of the invention is to provide a device wherein a crop to be worked can be removed from the cultivating bed in a quick and efficient manner without damaging or otherwise disturbing the surrounding crops, and according to the invention the device furthermore comprises second image forming means for determining the current orientation of the separating means relative to the stalk of the selected crop; manipulating means for positioning the separating means in a separating position relative to the stalk of the selected crop on the basis of signals generated by the second image forming means,
