APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR THE COATING OF PAPER OR PAPERBOARD WEBS ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The invention concerns an apparatus for the coating of paper or paperboard in particular for surface sizing. The web is made to run over a coating rod (10) which rests against the web and which is arranged to revolve and to smooth the coating agent applied to the face of the web abutting the coating rod (10). The coating rod (10) comprises a bar (12), onto which bushings (11) of a wear-resistant material have been fitted as non-revolving in relation to the bar (12), the outer faces of said bushings being provided with grooves or equivalent elements. The bushings (11) are advantageously made of a ceramic material.
