There is provided a method and system for verifying a device, having components. Identification numbers of the components are read and then verified. The process of verifying comprises matching each identification number in a database to determine whether each identification number is valid. In one embodiment, the database is remote from the device, wherein verification is performed over a network connecting a database server containing the database with the device. The device transmits the identification numbers for each of the components to the database server for verification. A file allocation structure reader may be located in a basic input/output system of the device for reading and verifying data files from a persistent storage media without loading an operating system. The device may comprise a gaming machine that contains a monitor for monitoring one or more system events being processed by the gaming machine. The monitor monitors routine and non-routine events. A detector is included for detecting selected system events so that they may be recorded.
La présente invention concerne un procédé et un système qui permettent de vérifier un dispositif contenant des composants. Le système de l'invention lit et vérifie ensuite les numéros d'identification des composants. Le procédé de vérification de l'invention consiste à mettre en correspondance chaque numéro d'identification avec une base de données afin de déterminer si chaque numéro d'identification est valable. Dans un mode de réalisation, la base de données est éloignée du dispositif, la vérification étant effectuée via un réseau qui relie un serveur de base de données contenant la base de données au dispositif. Le dispositif transmet les numéros d'identification de chacun des composants au serveur de base de données afin que ces derniers soient vérifiés. Un lecteur de structure d'attribution des fichiers peut être placé dans un système d'entrée/sortie de base du dispositif afin de lire et vérifier les fichiers de données à partir d'un support de stockage persistant sans qu'il soit nécessaire de charger un système d'exploitation. Le dispositif de l'invention peut comprendre une machine de jeux de hasard contenant un programme moniteur destiné à surveiller un ou plusieurs événements système traités par la machine de jeux. Le programme moniteur surveille les événements programmés et non programmés. Un détecteur permet de détecter des événements système sélectionnés afin qu'ils puissent être enregistrés.
