ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The invention refers to a lifeline which is designed to lower persons down from a burning building, after evacuation through a window, distinguished by the lifeline having a length which corresponds to the mounting height of the equipment, sliding over a friction pulley with a keyway which will cause braking to occur under the weight of persons being lowered. The friction pulley has a centred over-dimensioned axle wheel and runs between two bolts attached to the sideplates of a housing, which is fastened with a bracket to a window sill. Under loading, the line locks the friction pulley fast against the bolts so that the line runs in the friction pulley's keyway and the line passes between two pins placed in the lower end of the two sideplates to hold the line in the keyway circumference. At the shortest line end, when the lifeline is coiled up, a safety harness is fastened made of a suitable soft material. The lifeline is stored in a cassette fitted with a sliding lid with line release. By pressing the lid down a little the cassette is freed which can be thrown out of the window with the longest end of the line. The lifeline which runs round the friction pulley can easily be hauled up to the exit position when the unloaded friction pulley runs freely back.
