A device for supporting weak bony structures includes a body (11) having first and second ends (12, 13) configured for contacting adjacent bony structures. The body (11) has a wall with a number of openings (35), and the wall defines a hollow chamber (16) for receiving bone growth inducing material. The device includes an end cap (100) for placement in the hollow chamber (16) adjacetn one of the ends of the body (11). The end cap (100) has opposite upper and lower surfaces (116, 117), and includes a plurality of arms (106) extending from a central ring (105). Each of the arms having a first end (106a) connected with the ring and an opposite second end (106b) including an outer surface (110). Each of the outer surfaces (110) are positionable adjacent the inner surface of the wall of the body (11) when the end cap (100) is inserted into the hollow chamber (16). Each arm (106) can also include a projection (112) that extends at least partially into a wall opening (35).
L'invention concerne un dispositif qui permet de soutenir des structures osseuses fragiles et qui comprend un corps (11) doté de première et seconde extrémités (12, 13) conçues pour rentrer en contact avec des structures osseuses adjacentes. Ledit corps (11) présente une paroi qui est dotée d'un certain nombre d'ouvertures (35) et qui définit une chambre creuse (16) de réception d'une matière induisant la croissance osseuse. Ce dispositif comprend une coiffe d'extrémité (100) à disposer dans la chambre creuse (16) adjacente à une des extrémités du corps (11). Ladite coiffe (100) a des surfaces supérieure et inférieures opposées (116,117) et comporte une pluralité de bras (106) s'étendant de l'anneau central (105). Chacun des bras a une première extrémité (106a) reliée à l'anneau et une seconde extrémité opposée (106b) pourvue d'une surface externe (110). Chacune des surfaces externes (110) peut être placée à côté de la surface interne de la paroi du corps (11), lorsque la coiffe (100) est introduite dans la chambre creuse (16). Chaque bras (106) peut également comprendre une projection (112) qui s'étend au moins partiellement dans une ouverture de la paroi (35).
