ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A method for dewatering alum sludges obtained from waste water treat- nent processes which comprises treating said sludges prior to, or during their formation, with an anionic copolymer of acrylamide and acrylic acid, said polymer having a molecular weight of at least between 1 million and 5 million, said polymer being further characterized as containing between 60-98% by weight of acrylamide.
