A catheter (20) for diagnosing and performing an interventional procedure on tissue has an elongated catheter shaft, and optical fibers (20, 26), extending through the catheter shaft, for transmitting light to tissue located at a distal end of the catheter and conveying light back from the tissue for analysis by a spectroscopic diagnosis system (42) to determine whether an interventional procedure should be performed on the tissue. An interventional device (52) is located at the distal end of the catheter for engaging tissue diagnosed by the spectroscopic diagnosis system in order to perform the interventional procedure on the tissue. An assembly for imaging and performing an interventional procedure on tissue has an endoscope in combination with an endoscopically insertable catheter having an ultrasound imaging device for imaging a tissue structure located at a distal end of the endoscope so as to enable the depth of penetration of the tissue structure to be displayed, and an endoscopically insertable interventional device for engaging the tissue structure imaged by the ultrasound imaging device.
Un cathéter (20) pour diagnostiquer et réaliser une procédure interventionnelle sur un tissu comprend un manche de cathéter allongé et des fibres optiques (20, 26). Les fibres optiques, qui traversent de part en part le manche du cathéter, servent à acheminer la lumière jusqu'au tissu situé à une extrémité distale du cathéter et à réacheminer ladite lumière vers un système de diagnostic spectroscopique (42) qui effectue une analyse pour déterminer si une intervention doit être réalisée sur le tissu. Un instrument d'intervention (52) placé sur l'extrémité distale du cathéter est utilisé pour pénétrer un tissu sur lequel on pratique une intervention à la suite d'un diagnostic réalisé avec le système de diagnostic spectroscopique. Un appareil d'imagerie et de réalisation d'une procédure interventionnelle sur un tissu est constitué de l'assemblage d'un endoscope et d'un cathéter insérable dans l'endoscope et équipé d'un dispositif d'imagerie ultrasonique, lequel dispositif présente en image une structure tissulaire située à une extrémité distale de l'endoscope et permet de visualiser la profondeur de pénétration dans ladite structure tissulaire. L'appareil comprend aussi un instrument d'intervention insérable dans l'endoscope et utilisable pour pénétrer la structure tissulaire présentée en image par le dispositif d'imagerie ultrasonique.
