A method of diagnosis of solid epithelial tumours or other abnormalities such as rectal colitis, which comprises size-separating stroma from epithelial cells, separating the epithelial cells from most of the other tissue still present, by reacting the tissue with a monoclonal antibody specific for epithelial cells, collecting the reacted cells bound to the antibody and releasing them from the antibody, whereby the sample contains at least 90 percent epithelial cells by volume of the total tissue of the sample and comparing at least one phenotypic or genotypic characteristic of the sample with corresponding normal epithelial cells.

L'invention concerne une méthode de dépistage de tumeurs épithéliales solides, ou autres anomalies comme la colite rectale. Cette méthode consiste à: séparer par tailles le stroma des cellules épithéliales; séparer les cellules épithéliales de la majeure partie du tissu restant; mettre en réaction ce tissu en présence d'un anticorps monoclonal spécifique des cellules épithéliales; récupérer les cellules résultant de la réaction et les libérer de l'anticorps auquel elles sont liées. On obtient ainsi un échantillon contenant au moins 90 pour cent de cellules épithéliales par volume du tissu total de l'échantillon. La méthode consiste enfin à comparer au moins une caractéristique phénotypique ou génotypique de l'échantillon avec des cellules épithéliales normales correspondantes.
