The invention describes a method for diagnosing of septic complications in polytraumatised human or animal patients, said patients being free of traumatic brain injury, by determining the level of the C-type natriuretic peptide (CNP), its precursors or fragments thereof, especially the precursor of the C-type natriuretic peptide (NT-proCNP), in this patient and diagnosing the patient a having septic complications or being at risk of developing septic complications, if the level of CNP, its precursors or fragments thereof, especially NT-proCNP, is increased compared to normal levels.

L'invention concerne une méthode de diagnostic de complications septiques chez des patients humains ou des animaux polytraumatisés mais ne souffrant pas de lésions cérébrales traumatiques. Ladite méthode consiste à déterminer chez ce patient le niveau du peptide natriurétique de type C (CNP), de ses précurseurs ou de fragments de ceux-ci, en particulier le précurseur du peptide natriurétique de type C (NT-proCNP), et à diagnostiquer des complications septiques ou un risque de complications septiques chez ce patient si le niveau du CNP, de ses précurseurs ou de fragments de ceux-ci, en particulier NT-proCNP, augmente par rapport aux niveaux normaux.
