Abstract of the Disclosure A diagnostic agent is described containing a a chromogen a diamino-biphenyl compound in which at least one of the hydrogen atoms in the amino groups thereof is replaced by a lower alkyl group by reaction with an alkylating agent. The alkylated diamino-biphenyl derivative is used in the form of a diagnostic element comprising an absorbent, porous sup- port impregnated with a solution of the diagnostic composition, a buffer and a background adjusting dye. This diagnosing element can be handled in a simple and convenient way and used to indentify semi-quantitatively a saccharide in body fluids or excrements of humans or animals with reliability.
