Abstract of the disclosure: A diagnostic agent for the detection of ketone bodies in fluids is described consisting of a carrier matrix a buffer, an amino acid sodium nitroprusside, optionally an organic carboxylic acid and a stabilizer, wherein the sta- bilizer is a compound of formula I Image (I) where n n is an integer of from 2 to 10 and an A member represents the following structure, Image wherein X is oxygen. sulfur or NH, R to R10 each are hydrogen m1 and m2 each represent an integer of from 0 to 4 and m is zero or 1, with the proviso that at least four .lambda. radi- cals have to to present in the compound, and moreover R3, R4, R5 and R10 each may be C1-3alkyl R1 and R3 or R7 and R9 may form together a CH2CH2CH2CH2 or a CH=CH-CH=CH group and -R2 and -R4 or -R6 and -R10 may form together a bond and R5,R6. R7 and R8 may form together a CH-CH group in which ease m1 = 1 (and R1 and R2 as well as R2 and the corres- ponding R radicals of the adjacent A members that are not shown in formula I, may form together a CH-CH group. in which case m2 = 1), or a compound of the formula II
