ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A diagnostic agent is provided for the detection of protein in body fluids which comprises an absorbent carrier impregnated with a pH indicator with protein error, the indicator being a octahalosulphophthalein indicator, a buffer for the indicator and at least one linear or branched chain polypropylene glycol which is immiscible with water and which optionally contains lower oxyalkylene groups other than oxypropylene; the agent is useful, for example, in the diagnosis of kidney disease.
