The present invention provides a method for detecting mutations in the PALB2 gene in pancreatic cancer patients and in individuals having a family history of pancreatic cancer. Methods are also provided for diagnosing a predisposition to pancreatic cancer, for predicting a patient's response to pancreatic cancer therapies, and for treating pancreatic cancer, based on presence of a PALB2 mutation or abberant PALB2 gene expression in a patient.

Cette invention concerne un procédé permettant de détecter des mutations dans le gène PALB2 chez les patients atteints d'un cancer du pancréas et chez les individus ayant des antécédents familiaux de cancer du pancréas. Des procédés permettant de diagnostiquer une prédisposition au cancer du pancréas, de prédire la réponse d'un patient aux thérapies contre le cancer du pancréas, et de traiter le cancer du pancréas sont également décrits, lesdits procédés se basant sur la présence d'une mutation de PALB2 ou sur l'expression aberrante du gène PALB2 chez un patient.
