PATENT CL-135A Abstract of the Disclosure The present invention relates to the discovery that elastase inactivates antithrombin III (AT-III) in vivo and that such inactivation produces an inactivated form of AT-III, termed ATx, which is not normally present in the circulation. The presence of elastase modified antithrombin can be used to predict pre-thrombotic as well as thrombotic conditions. Treatment of these conditions can include anticoagulant, fibrinolytic, and anti-elastase therapy.
