2045524 9107664 PCTABS00005 This invention is directed to the discovery that certain envelope peptide fragments of the Human Immunodeficiency Virus 2 (HIV-2) are particularly immunoreactive against HIV-2 antibodies. These fragments can therefore be applied to immunodiagnostic tests for the detection of antibodies to HIV-2. This invention is also directed to certain chimeric proteins that are made from immunogenic portions of the envelope gene of HIV-2, HIV-1, or HTLV-I that can be used to test for antibodies to HIV-2, HIV-1, and HTLV-I and HTLV-II.
