ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE This invention relates to an improved process for the production of diamides of aromatic or cycloaliphatic dicarboxylic acids by subjecting an oligoester or poly- ester of a corresponding dicarboxylic acid to ammonolysis wherein the oligoester resp. the polyester is reacted with ammonia in a polyhydric alcohol at temperatures in the range between 30 to 200 and at partial pressures of ammonia in the range from 0,1 to 50 ata.
