A heat trap assembly includes one or more diaphragms disposed in a non-corrosive fluid passageway to limit thermal siphoning or circulation. The body is preferably a composite structure having an outer metallic sleeve threaded at opposite ends for operative engagement with the fluid line and the spud of a water heater. One or more non-corrosive sleeves are received within the metallic sleeve and the body components secured together. A support member is disposed inside the fluid passageway, and it includes support arms cooperating with the body. The support member carries one or more diaphragms. The diaphragms are bi-directional so that orientation of the heat trap assembly is not an issue, and the heat trap can be used in other hot water or cold water fluid lines. In one embodiment, the diaphragm has a planar configuration, while in a second embodiment the diaphragm has a generally hemispherical shape.
