Abstract of the Disclosure A cage unit for mounting a metal diaphragm in a nuclear valve. Similar nuclear valves utilizing metal diaphragms to restrict leakage of fluid passing through the valve to atmos- phere have utilized welding of a metal diaphragm directly to the bonnet of the valve. Welding of the metal diaphragm directly to the bonnet adversely affects the properties of the diaphragm, as well as rendering replacement of the diaphragm in the field upon breakage thereof quite difficult. Further, welding of a diaphragm unit consisting of 8 to 12 very thin (.006-.008") discs requires special welding procedures, whereas welding of the cage unit to the bonnet can be performed in the field without requiring any special skills. By utilizing a cage unit supporting the metal diaphragm, the cage unit itself is welded to the bonnet, the cage unit being replaceable in the field. The cage unit comprises a pair of annular metal members situated on either side of the metal diaphragm which is squeezed therebetween. An outer periphery of the metal diaphragm is welded to the pair of annular metal members to prevent leakage to atmosphere of liquids passing through the valve.
