Compounds of formula (I) in which W is O, S, S(O) or S(O)2; X is -SR4, - S(O)R4, or -S(O)2R4, -S(O)2NR5R6; or X is -C(O)NR5R6 provided that -C(O)NR5R6 is located at the 3', 4' or 5' position; Y is O or H2; Z is hydrogen, halogen, hydroxy, optionally substituted alkoxy, aralkoxy, acyloxy or alkoxycarbonyloxy; R is hydrogen, halogen, trifluoromethyl, lower alkyl or cycloalkyl; R1 is hydroxy, optionally substituted alkoxy, aryloxy, heteroarylocy, aralkyloxy, cycloalkoxy, heteroaralkoxy or -NR5R6; R2 is hydrogen, halogen or alkyl; R3 is halogen or alkyl; R4 is optionally substituted alkyl, aryl, aralkyl, heteroaralkyl or heteroaryl; R5, R6 and R7 are independently hydrogen, optionally substituted alkyl, cycloalkyl, aryl, aralkyl, heteroaryl, or heteroaralkyl; or R5 and R6 combined are alkylene optionally interrupted by O, S, S(O), S(O)2 or NR7 which together with the nitrogen atom to which they are attached form a 5- to 7- membered ring; n represents zero or an integer from 1 to 4; pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof; pharmaceutical compositions comprising said compounds; a method to prevent and treat diseases associated with an imbalance of thyroid hormones, such as hypo-and hyperthyroidism, obesity, osteoporosis and depression; and, a method of lowering LDL cholesterol and Lp(a) levels in mammals using such compounds.

Dans cette formule W est O, S, S(O) ou S(O)¿2?; X est -SR4, -S(O)R4, ou - S(O)¿2?R4, -S(O)¿2?NR5R6; ou X est -C(O)NR5R6 à condition que -C(O)NR5R6 soit situé à la position 3', 4' ou 5'. Y est O ou H¿2?; Z est hydrogène, halogène, hydroxy, éventuellement alcoxy substitué, aralcoxy, acyloxy ou alcoxycarbonyloxy; R est hydrogène, halogène trifluorométhyle, alkyle inférieur ou cycloalkyle; R1 est hydroxy, éventuellement alcoxy substitué, aryloxy, hétéroaryloxy, aralkyloxy, cycloalcoxy, hétéroaralcoxy ou -NR5R6; R2 est hydrogène, halogène ou alkyle; R3 est halogène ou alkyle; R4 est éventuellement alkyle substitué, aryle, aralkyle, hétéroarelkyle ou hétéroaryle; R5, R6 and R7 sont indépendamment hydrogène, éventuellement alkyle substitué, cycloalkyle, aryle, aralkyle, hétéroaryle, ou heteroaralkyle; ou R5 et R6 associés sont alkylène éventuellement interrompu par O, S, S(O), S(O)¿2? ou NR7 qui, avec l'atome d'azote auquel ils sont attachés forment un cycle de 5 à 7 côtés; n représente zéro ou un entier de 1 à 4; enfin cette formule comprend des sels pharmaceutiquement acceptables de ceux-ci; Cette inventions concerne aussi des compositions pharmaceutiques comprenant lesdits composés, Une méthode empêchant des maladies associées à un déséquilibre des hormones thyroïdiennes de survenir, ou permettant de les traiter, par exemple l'hyperthyroïdie ou l'hypothyroïdie, l'obésité, l'ostéoporose et la dépression, et enfin une méthode permettant, par l'utilisation de ces composés, d'abaisser le cholestérol LDL et les niveaux de lipoprotéines a (Lp(a)) chez les mammifères.
