A dielectrophoretic apparatus provides a planar structure with linear electrodes in which electric field distributions provide directional control of particles. In one embodiment, particles are radially focussed by a planar structure that mimics a cone-plane structure. In another embodiment, an isomotive structure is formed between two plane parallel plates.
