According to the invention, the composition of the air-fuel mixture in a diesel rammer is controlled depending on the momentary working conditions of said diesel rammer. For this purpose, different sensors, especially a fall height sensor, are provided, said fall height sensor consisting of individual position detectors (64-i) which are mounted spaced from the cylinder (12) in axial direction.
