Diethers of formula (see fig.I) where R, RI, RII, RIII, RIV and RV are the same or different and are H, linear or branched alkyl, cycloalkyl, aryl, alkylaryl or arylalkyl radicals with 1-18 carbon atoms, provided that R and RI are not both H and when R and RI are alkyl radicals, each has at least 3 carbon atoms; RVI and RVII are the same or different and are linear or branched alkyl, cycloalkyl, aryl, alkylaryl radicals with 1-18 carbon atoms; one or more of R to RVII may be bonded to form a cyclic structure; with the proviso that RII, RIII, RIV and RV can not all be H, R, RI, RVI and RVII can not all be alkyl radicals, as defined above, and excluded are diethers of formula: (see fig. II) wherein R is alkyl, cycloalkyl, alkylaryl or aryl, and RI is cyclohexyl.
