A differential pressure operated valve for use as a circulating and/or deflation valve in a well bore. The valve comprises a housing defining first and second bores therethrough and a passage providing communication between the interior and exterior of the housing. A valve sleeve is slidably disposed in the housing and has a first outer surface slidably disposed in the first bore and a second outer surface slidably disposed in the second bore. A valve port is defined in the valve sleeve providing communication between a central opening thereof and the passage in the housing when the valve sleeve is in an open position. When the valve sleeve is closed, the valve port and passage are isolated from one another. The first and second outer surfaces of the valve sleeve define a differential area, and the valve is closed by fluid flow creating a differential pressure acting across this area. A spring biases the valve toward the open position. A mandrel may be disposed in the valve which has a flange thereon for locking the valve sleeve in the closed position. A mandrel port defined in the mandrel is in communication with the passage in the housing when the valve sleeve is in the open position.

L'invention concerne une soupape à pression différentielle destinée à être utilisée comme soupape de circulation ou de déflation dans un puits de forage. La soupape comporte un logement délimitant un premier et un deuxième alésages ainsi qu'un passage permettant la communication entre l'intérieur et l'extérieur du logement. Un manchon coulisse dans le logement et comporte une première surface extérieure coulissant dans le premier alésage ainsi qu'une deuxième surface extérieure coulissant dans le deuxième alésage. Un orifice pratiqué dans le manchon de la soupape permet la communication entre une ouverture centrale dans celui-ci et le passage dans le logement lorsque le manchon est en position d'ouverture. Lorsque le manchon est position de fermeture, l'orifice et le passage sont isolés l'un de l'autre. La première et la deuxième surfaces extérieures du manchon de la soupape délimitent une zone différentielle, et la soupape se ferme sous l'action du débit de fluide qui crée une pression différentielle dans cette zone. Un ressort repousse la soupape en position d'ouverture. Un mandrin doté d'une bride de verrouillage du manchon en position de fermeture peut être placé dans la soupape. Un orifice ménagé dans le mandrin communique avec le passage dans le logement lorsque le manchon est en position d'ouverture.
