ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A fastening apparatus is provided wherein the length of a mating threaded connection between two members is limited as a function of an effective differential pitch to the uniform pitch of the threads on both members whereby clearances of progressive increasing amounts are established between successive opposed tooth flanks. An elastic deformation of one member occurring in a direction opposite to the increasing of the amounts of clearance brings successive opposed flank portions into a force transmitting relationship whereby the total area of flank-to- flank contact between the threads varies as a function of the applied load.
