Conventional EAS systems, such as ULTRA*MAX, use noncoherent detection and a highly nonlinear post detection combining algorithm. It is well known that using the phase information that is present in the received signal has advantages in detection performance. This is difficult to do in conventional ULTRA*MAX receiver because of the combination of a narrow signal bandwidth and short receive window duration. A method to incorporate signal phase into the detector by differential coherent combining is provided, which significantly improves processing gain that was not previously obtainable.

L'invention porte sur des systèmes électroniques de surveillance d'articles habituels, notamment ULTRA*MAX, faisant appel à un algorithme de combinaison d'une détection non cohérente et d'une post-détection fortement non linéaire. Il est bien connu que l'utilisation d'informations relatives à une phase présentes dans le signal reçu offre des avantages en matière de performance de détection. Toutefois, ceci est difficile à effectuer avec un récepteur ULTRA*MAX conventionnel en raison de la combinaison d'une largeur de bande étroite d'un signal et de la courte durée d'une fenêtre de réception. Pour y pallier, on met en oeuvre un procédé permettant d'incorporer une phase de signal dans le détecteur par combinaison différentielle cohérente, ce qui a pour effet d'améliorer notablement le gain de traitement.
