ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A differentially-polarizing plate in made by cementing together two glass elements each having a planar surface with a portion thereof having a tenaciously bonded light polarizing organic film thereon. One plate has an annulus with a uniform direction of polarization. The other plate has a disc and concentric annulus thereon both having the same uniform direction of polarization, which is oriented 90° to the direction of polarization of the annulus on the other plate. By first bonding the light polarizing film to the entire surface of the glass plate and subsequently removing a portion of the film, it is possible to make polarizing elements with a surprisingly uniform direction of polarization. A pattern is produced by the remaining film on the surface of each glass element which are then joined together adhesively to form the differentially-polarizing plate.
