A digital broadcasting transmitter and a method for processing a stream in a digital broadcasting transmitter are provided. The digital broadcasting transmitter includes an encoder for encoding an additional data packet, a first packet formatter for formatting the encoded additional data packet, a second packet formatter for formatting a normal data packet and a transport stream (TS) generator for generating a transport stream by multiplexing the additional data packet output from the first packet formatter with the normal data packet output from the second packet formatter. The transmitter further includes a Reed Solomon (RS) encoder for encoding the transport stream, an interleaver for interleaving the encoded transport stream and a trellis encoder for trellis- encoding the interleaved transport stream.
