This invention provides an improved interview recording system, allowing a reliable and high quality video and audio recording to be made using a self-contained and relatively uncomplicated unit. The DIVA unit includes a camera, a microphone, time and date clock, digital audio and video recorder, video and audio monitors, sound conditioner, headphone amplifier and power conditioner with battery back-up. These utilities are provided in modular form so that only the utilities and functionality required by the individual application needs be included in the individual DIVA system. Further, the DIVA modules are screwed in and locked down, and all cabling is secured to the unit, so that it is difficult for users to inadvertently misuse or disconnect the modules.
