2032150 9013174 PCTABS00002 A digital signal processor based automatic gain control (AGC) is disclosed for adjusting the gain of a signal processor. According to the invention, an input signal (1) is provided and at least one value (13, 15) is determined based on the energy of the signal. Thereafter, the desired signal gain (5, 17) is computed responsive to the energy value or values. One advantage of this AGC is that it may easily be implemented in digital format by means of a digital signal processor (DSP).
