According to the invention, an input signal (1) is provided and at least one value (13, 15) is determined based on the energy of the signal. Thereafter, the desired signal gain (5, 17) is computed responsive to the energy value or values. One advantage of this AGC is that it may easily be implemented in digital format by means of a digital signal processor (DSP).
