A receiver for use with a mud-pulse telemetry system is disclosed. The receiver includes one or more instruments for detecting and generating signals in response to a telemetry wave and a noise wave traveling opposite to the telemetry wave. A filter receives and combines the signals generated by the instruments to produce an output signal in which the noise wave signal is filtered out. An equalizer reduces distortion of the telemetry wave signal.
