ABSTRACT "DIGITAL TELECOMMUNICATIONS SYSTEM" The digital signal multiplexing arrangement has at least one multiplexer (1,2) and at least one demultiplexer (6,7) for pulse frames having a plurality of useful information channels. The transmitting section has a data protection coder (3) whereas the receiving section has a data protection decoder (5). The data protection coder (3) produces an error protection code dependent on errors detected in predetermined ones of the useful information channels and inserts the error protection information into one or more of the useful information channels or into one or more dedicated portions of the useful information channels. At the receiving end, the data protection decoder (5) recognises and corrects errors in the predetermined channels of the transmitted t.d.m. signal. In this way, all or some of the useful information channels, which are provided, for example, for data transmission, can be transmitted with a lower bit error quota without thereby departing from the standardised hierarchy stages of the transmission systems.
