ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Digital video effect equipment which can modify a television picture on a real time basis to provide an oil painting like quality is described. The equipment involves an analog/digital converter for encoding the television video signal into a digital video signal which has a luminance (Y) component and a chrominance (C) component. A separating circuit separates the Y and C components from each other and these components are then passed through a pair of gradation modifying circuits. The results are then added in a Y/C addition circuit and the sum signal is then converted to an analog video signal in a digital/analog converter. The timing of the various circuits is controlled by clock signals from a clock generator.
