A computer obtains a digital model of a patient's dentition, including a dental model representing the patient's teeth at a set of initial positions, and a gingival model representing gum tissue surrounding the teeth. The computer then derives (540)(542)(544)(546)(548) from the digital model an expected deformation of the gum tissue as the teeth move from the initial positions to another set of positions.

Un ordinateur produit un modèle numérique de la dentition d'un patient, et notamment un modèle dentaire représentant les dents du patient dans un ensemble de positions initiales, et un modèle gingival représentant le tissu gingival au voisinage des dents. L'ordinateur calcule ensuite (540, 542, 544, 546, 548) à partir de ce modèle numérique une déformation prévue du tissu gingival lorsque les dents passent des positions initiales à un autre ensemble de positions.
