This invention is a process for producing diisobutylene from isobutylene. The process comprises contacting isobutylene with a solid adsorbent to remove sulfur and/or nitrogen impurities from the isobutylene, followed by oligomerizing the isobutylene to diisobutylene using a sulfonic acid-type ion exchange resin. The solid adsorbent removes sulfur and/or nitrogen impurities from the isobutylene and surprisingly increases both catalyst activity and catalyst life of the sulfonic acid-type ion exchange resin.

L'invention concerne un procédé permettant de produire du diisobutylène à partir d'isobutylène. Ce procédé consiste à mettre en contact l'isobutylène avec un adsorbant solide afin d'extraire les impuretés à base de soufre et/ou d'azote de l'isobutylène, puis à oligomériser l'isobutylène pour produire du diisobutylène à l'aide d'une résine échangeuse d'ions de type acide sulfonique. L'adsorbant solide élimine les impuretés de soufre et où d'azote de l'isobutylène et, de manière inattendue, augmente à la fois l'activité de catalyse et la durée de vie de l'activité de catalyse la résine échangeuse d'ions de type acide sulfonique.
